Curious About Costa del Maresme? This Day Trip Will Steal Your Heart

Hi, we are Timon & Filipa!

We live in Catalonia, where we spend our days enjoying local traditions, tasting regional flavors, and exploring the beautiful landscapes. We’re excited to share our love for this region with you, inviting you to experience it slowly, one step at a time.

Curious About Costa del Maresme? This Day Trip Will Steal Your Heart

Planning a day trip along the Costa del Maresme turned out to be one of our most rewarding experiences. From wandering through the peaceful streets of Sant Pol de Mar to exploring the historic Castle of Santa Florentina, the journey felt like the perfect mix of relaxation and discovery. We love how easy it is to move from one stop to the next—never more than 20 minutes in the car. If you’re curious about this often-overlooked part of Catalonia, let us take you through a perfect day filled with beaches, history, and local flavors.

Morning in Sant Pol de Mar: A calm start

To kick off your day in Sant Pol de Mar, we recommend starting with a café con leche at Nou 49, a local favorite where we enjoyed a relaxed morning. After that, treat yourself to some fresh pastries from Sauleda Pastissers—their selection is not to be missed.

Once you’re ready, explore the village’s charming streets. Stop by Església de Sant Jaume de Sant Pol de Mar, a church dating back to the 11th century, where you can appreciate the village’s history. As you wander, you’ll come across Can Coderch, Casa Mas i Morell, Casa Camino, and Can Planiol—buildings that impressed us with their beautiful facades and unique character.

Before lunch, visit La Cistella de la Míriam, a local shop where we found some fantastic regional products. It’s a great place to pick up local treats, like fresh produce, cheeses, or artisanal wines.

Finish your morning by walking down to Platja de les Escaletes, a quiet beach with golden sands and clear water. It’s a peaceful spot to enjoy the Mediterranean breeze and relax before continuing your day.

Lunch at Cuine Sant Pau: A culinary experience

For lunch, stop at Cuine Sant Pau, a restaurant that once held three Michelin stars and now offers a more relaxed bistro experience. The menu blends Catalan and Brazilian flavors crafted by chefs Raül Balam Ruscalleda and Murilo Rodrigues Alves. For us, the highlight was the moqueca, an incredible Brazilian seafood stew. And the desserts? Unbelievable. If you’re looking for a creative and memorable meal, this is the perfect place.

Afternoon at the Castle of Santa Florentina: A medieval journey

In the afternoon, head to the stunning Castle of Santa Florentina, a must-visit for architecture and history enthusiasts. You can only visit through a guided tour, so we recommend booking online in advance to secure your spot. The castle’s intricate design and breathtaking courtyards make for a fascinating experience. Having even been featured in “Game of Thrones,” it’s a perfect stop for those looking to immerse themselves in a medieval setting.

Late afternoon at Calella’s beaches: Unwind by the sea

End your day with a visit to the beautiful Calella beaches. After a day of exploring, there’s nothing better than sinking your feet into the golden sand and listening to the waves. We found the vibe here laid-back and perfect for a late afternoon swim or just sitting back and enjoying the views. The clear water and peaceful atmosphere make it the ideal spot to relax and soak in the last moments of your trip.

The best of Costa del Maresme in a day

If you’re planning a day in Costa del Maresme, this itinerary captures the best of the region. We found it to be the perfect mix of culture, relaxation, and great food. From starting your morning in Sant Pol de Mar to experiencing the magic of the Castle of Santa Florentina, each stop has its own charm. And lunch at Cuine Sant Pau is a must—especially the moqueca. To wrap up the day, the beaches of Calella offer the ideal place to unwind. It’s a day trip we’d happily do again, and we think you’ll love it too.
